My husband Travis turns 30 in November, so we flew to NYC to celebrate this October!
The trip was intended to be a surprise, BUT I accidentally let it slip. (Completely sober too!)
We stayed with my cousin on the Upper East Side on Friday and Saturday nights — she lives three blocks from The Met and Central Park.
Then, we stayed at The Pearl Hotel in Midtown Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights.
I was super overwhelmed picking a hotel but this one was PERFECT! Our room was quiet and spacious, but we were also right there by Times Square and Broadway.
This trip was probably more relaxed than the typical "NYC-must-see-everything trip" because we visited with family the first 3 days...but we also walked over 32 MILES while we were there!
The best way to see the city is to walk it!
Thanks for ALL the suggestions on where to stay and eat and do all the things. I put together a list of what we did/where we ate — and also a list from everyone's suggestions!
THINGS WE DID:
Strolled around Central Park - saw the Bethesda Fountain (pretty), Loeb Boathouse (SO many people out in little row boats because it was a gorgeous day) and Umpire Rock (bunch of people laying on it while the sun was shining)
Toured Greenwich Village, Washington Square Park (big monumental arch - next to NYU)
Watched the LSU game at Legend’s
Took a trip to the Outhouse Orchards in North Salem, NY for apple picking (ate the BEST apple ever! There were a bunch of fall festivals for families too!)
Attempted to visit the American Museum of Natural History (at 11:30am it was AT CAPACITY with a 3-4 hour not moving line to wait in so we went to the Met instead, which is across Central Park. Came back on Tuesday)
Attended DRUNK SHAKESPEARE (so fun! a must do!)
Rode to the top of the Empire State Building Observatory at night (stays open until 2 am daily)
Traveled downtown to Battery Park to see the Statue of Liberty
Saw the Charging Bull — along with a MILLION tourists!
Visited the NY Stock Exchange (was under construction so there was nothing to see)
